Some clients wonder why therapists are not in-network with all insurances or may not be in network with any. That is a great question. Read on if you want to know why this is.
Mental health is not treated the same as other health benefits. We have to apply to each insurance company separately, some insurance panels have been closed to taking anymore providers in the area (even for more than 10 years), and it can take 3 to 6 months for them process and approve the application. We tell clients to contact their insurance company as it can help coming from the client.
Some insurance companies do not allow our group structure. We hire licensed masters social workers to help provide more consistent long term treatment, more affordable care, and to avoid the more problematic insurance obstacles that would come with hiring other provider types. Some insurance companies allow large facilities of 30 or more therapists (clinics) to have this type of structure, but not a small group practice like ours. We have asked why this is, and have gotten no response. As a client you may be able to advocate for yourself regarding this, and if you are interested we can tell you how.
